Connecting with friends and other users

Follow users to see their reading activity, reviews, and shelf updates in your newsfeed. Search for specific users or browse community members to expand your network.

Follow other users

  1. Click a username from any review, comment, or shelf to visit their profile.
  2. Click Follow at the top of their profile page.
  3. Verify the Following badge appears to confirm the connection.

Find other users

  1. Click Search users in the main navigation.
  2. Enter a name, username, or library card number.
  3. Apply the Public activity filter to find active users.
  4. Click on profiles and select Follow to connect.

Report or block users

  1. Go to the user's profile page.
  2. Click the three-dot menu (…) near their profile information.
  3. Select Report user or Block user to hide their content.
  4. Submit your report or confirm the block.

Newsfeed

View reading activity from users and shelves you follow. The newsfeed displays reviews, ratings, shelf updates, and new lists from your connections, with the most recent updates at the top.

Access your newsfeed

  1. On web: Click Newsfeed in the main navigation.
  2. On mobile: Tap the Home icon.
  3. Look for blue notification badges indicating new content.

Browse and filter

  1. Scroll through your feed to view recent updates.
  2. Click Filter to narrow activity by type (reviews, shelf updates, lists, events).
  3. Use the search function to find specific titles or authors.

Interact with items

  • Click the heart icon to Like content
  • Click Comment to start discussions
  • Click Share to copy links for social media or email

Viewing public shelves

Browse public reading collections created by community members. Discover new titles and organizational approaches by exploring other users' curated shelves.

Find via profiles

  1. Visit any user's profile page.
  2. Look for the Public Shelves section.
  3. Click on shelf names to view their contents.
  4. Follow shelves to see updates in your newsfeed.

Browse popular shelves

  1. Go to Browse and select Community Shelves.
  2. Sort by popularity, recent activity, or ratings.
  3. Use category filters to find shelves matching your interests.
  4. Read shelf descriptions to understand their purpose and scope.

Interact with shelves

  1. Click Follow to receive updates when items are added.
  2. Add items from public shelves to your own collections.
  3. Rate shelves to help others discover quality collections.
  4. Comment on shelves to thank creators or ask questions.

Virtual Book Clubs

Join online reading communities organized around specific books, genres, or themes. Participate in discussions and connect with readers who share your literary interests.

Find book clubs

  1. Navigate to Community and select Book Clubs.
  2. Browse active clubs by genre, reading pace, or membership level.
  3. Read club descriptions to understand their focus and schedule.
  4. Check current reading selections and discussion topics.

Join a club

  1. Click Join Club on the club's main page.
  2. Read and agree to the club's participation guidelines.
  3. Introduce yourself in the welcome discussion thread.
  4. Add current club selections to your reading list.

Participate in discussions

  1. Read assigned portions before discussion deadlines.
  2. Contribute thoughtful comments and questions to discussion threads.
  3. Respond respectfully to other members' posts and opinions.
  4. Follow club moderator guidelines for spoilers and content warnings.
